My newest entry for awaiting eyeballs....*ahem*
I was browsing my cnn page (necessary for starting the day) and came upon a couple of stories relative to each other but couldn't be farther apart. First, there is the story of the starving children in Niger. "Screaming from Hunger" the headline read. My first thought was OMG....and picturing a small child so hungry they are crying and screaming. I heard that sound once and I want to cry thinking about it.
This baby boy I knew started crying and it was such a cry I had never heard b4. It was not a normal fussy kind of cry...it made my heart skip a beat. I asked his mother if he was ok. Her reply was a simple shrug and said, "Oh he's probably hungry." Months later I learned he had been taken away from his family b/c he was very underweight and at 10mos was not even able to hold his head up on his own. This was the product of being left in a bassinet all day and if he cried, his mother would prop a bottle of koolaid or tea next to him so he would drink and be quiet. The doctors say he was lucky his brain was not irreversibly damaged.
Today you will be happy to know this boy is grown and quite an amazing artist and musician. This talent has been carefully cultivated from the heartbreak of his childhood. I am thankful and quite in awe that he maintains and even prospers despite the setbacks.
I'll have to continue this a bit later....stay tuned!
